About
Hello, I'm redshiftzero. I'm an engineer, researcher and cypherpunk. I'm currently the CTO at Freedom of the Press Foundation, where I oversee the organization’s engineering teams.
I sometimes do consulting, most recently for clients including Lockdown Systems (which I'm now a member of) on Cyd, Radiant Commons on their protocol guides, and Lita Foundation on their zkVM Valida.
Some places I am on the internet:
- Google Scholar
- Bluesky
- Twitter - I'm not active here but here it is!
- GitHub
- Youtube - see some of my talks here
Previous affiliations:
- I was a founding engineer working on the cryptography stack at Penumbra Labs, a privacy-preserving decentralized exchange and L1 in the Cosmos ecosystem.
- I was the lead developer of the SecureDrop whistleblower platform.
- I was a cofounder, CTO and board member of Lucy Parsons Labs, a transparency non-profit based in Chicago.
- I was a core contributor to the Tor Project, a non-profit that creates the Tor anonymity network and Tor Browser.
- I was an advisory board member of Distributed Denial of Secrets, a non-profit that archives and publishes hacked and leaked data in the public interest.
- I was a Ford-Mozilla Open Web Fellow.
- I was a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Data Science and Public Policy (now at Carnegie Mellon).
- I completed my Ph.D. in Astrophysics in 2015 at the University of Chicago's Kavli Institute of Cosmological Physics.
